The Boys' Empire cast is featured in this latest oneshot out of COMIC Masyo's April issue. It's great to see new stuff featuring these familiar characters. More Hitomi and Mina is always a good thing. Had to work a little with the raws. The color pages had a lot of bleed through. Tried as best as I could to fix it on the first page.

Here's a Railgun doujin from C77, obviously centering on Uiharu. There've been a couple of doujins featuring Uiharu, but she's usually alongside Saten getting raped. Figured this would a nice offset to those. I really like both of them. Gotta love how easily they troll Kuroko.

Sorry if the title's a bit wonky, it's the best I could make out of "Uiharu no Oyorokobi Moushiagemasu". Other titles I considered were "Uiharu's Giving Gratification" and "Uiharu's Pleasure Patrol". ...I guess I have a thing for alliteration.

Just a quick note; if you're going to C76 this weekend, Juan Gotoh's going to be there on Sunday (Aug. 16th), East Hall #3, Row ”カ”, Table 01b, under his circle Sendouya. According to his website, Boys' Empire SP 3 will be available there plus 50 odd reprinted copies of SP 1&2.

Childhood's End is mentioned on Gotoh's pixiv account, but his homepage doesn't say anything about the second volume being on sale there.

FINALLY! Couple more months and it would have been a full year since this was released. Huge thanks, big ups, much respek goes to UchoFan1 for getting ahold of a hard copy and scanning it in. He's a member of the shochan.org community so be sure to give him props if you see him over there.

All right: Childhood's End, the long awaited spin-off of Boys' Empire. The story revolves around Umeko's twins, Ichigo and Kyouichi, Masato and Makoto's kids respectively. [insert way too easy to make joke about the Tamura family tree being a stump here]. For me at least, this was well worth the excruciating, agonizing wait. Twincest is wincest, Umeko makes a cameo and the dot-matrix hair color that everyone loved before makes a return.

New release from this month's Masyo. Interestingly enough, it's a continuation of "Completely Naked at Home!!". It's nice to see him go back and revisit some characters/scenarios. It gives hope to those out there, myself included, who want to see another installment of the Excited series. There was definitely another scenario set up on the last page of Nice and Wet, so hopefully this trend continues for a bit.

This one actually needed some touch-up work, especially on a couple of the color pages and the last two. The back of the page was pretty visible and made Ayako and Ayane look all veiny, for instance. It's a good one to play "find the edit" along with the raw, if you grabbed it. All right, enough of the tl;dr.

Was thinking about calling it "Fall is for Fucking," to mirror the "fall is for food" saying used in the story, but "seiyoku" isn't harsh enough to warrant translating it as "fucking". I've been wanting to do re-edits of BE for a while now. To be honest, the original translations were nowhere near the level of what I can do or the level to which I hold myself nowadays. There's loads of mistakes in them, the most embarrassing one being Hitomi's last name. It's Mizumura, not Mizuhara. I guess I wasn't paying enough attention (?) while reading it the first time or maybe it was some sort of subliminal influence from Azumanga Daioh (?!). Bullshit reasons, I know. So, badabing badaboom, re-edits.

I don't think I'll be doing this for any of the other ones. 7, 8, and 9 are pretty much up to my current standard. I will if Juan Gotoh ever releases a SP3.

That brings up a good point. The raws for these were the best raws I've ever worked with. They're available for purchase at Juan Gotoh's webpage, which has a helpful guide for English speakers. If you do want the raws please at least give his download shop a look. They're pretty reasonably priced.

That's all I can think of. Oh, don't try any find-the-edit drinking games on these two. You'll probably succumb to alcohol poisoning.

heh, Not to be alarmist or anything. Takenoko's stuff is pretty (in)famous for being shitstorm inducing. The art's pretty good, character designs are great, good fap scenes, etc...it's the sort of emotional content that pisses people off. Like boyfriends getting cheated on. I guess the /ss/ crowd might be more familiar with "Two Friends", which is sorta in the same vein as this.

I was browsing through the June issue of Megastore and found this story to be sort of...demanding of a translation. Sort of gave me a couple of challenges in the colored part. Hope I didn't fuck up the art too much.

Needless to say, I'll pick up whatever he puts down--waiting for the new issue of Masyo, etc. I do have some old doujins kicking around the hard drive that I've been wanting to do, too. The weird thing is, I've actually had fun doing this. Even stranger, I really haven't been feeling that burnt out. This one finishes out Doutei Hakusho. It originally ran in Colorful Drops's Jan. 2006 issue. Ayane speaks in Tohoku-ben, a northeastern dialect. It's a rural/country type accent, I think Ogiue from Genshiken uses it whenever she's thinking to herself or is flustered. She also refers to Takashi as "Taa-bou." The "bou" is the same as in "bouya" which is a false-cognate-y-riffic way to address a boy. She uses it as an honorific, which is sorta quirky. It's sorta archaically colloquial...if that makes any sort of sense. It really just emphasizes her being from the country. Although her mother just calls him "Takashi-kun"...

One of the earlier ones from Masyo. Apparently, there's a couple of god awful "rewrites" out there on the internets of Juan Gotoh's stuff. That prompted me to hurry up and give this one an actual translation.

The usual argument for rewrites is that, "Who cares what it says as long as it's in English," and, "I'm just gonna fap to it, who cares what it says, hurrr, durrr." Granted, it is porn, but, more importantly, it's manga. It's a medium that's meant to be read. In most cases, the characters created, THROUGH SPEECH, make the overall experience that much more enjoyable. It if wasn't meant to be read, people would just release HCG sets and be done with it. The fact that words are there on the page is, in and of itself, important and not to be ignored.

I'm not so sure it's just my bias as a translator at work here. Moreover, it's the arrogant attitude of the "rewriters" that somehow, their asinine script is in anyway better than the original. These people write FOR A LIVING. I think they have a slightly better idea of what makes a good story than some uberleet kid who thinks he's hot shit using MSPaint to gain some e-peen.

This was being kicked around 7chan's /ss/ and some people were clamoring for a translation. I had some free time and went ahead and did it.

I changed up some things from how I usually do my other translations. Notably, I used Wild Words instead of Arial usually used for Juan Gotoh's works. Big whoop, I know, but I try to match up the font used in the raws as closely as possible with their English counterpart. Capture's font looked a lot closer to the traditional manga font so I went with the more traditional comic font. It was also a good opportunity to practice editing out the original text on transparent speech bubbles.

I don't particularly have too much attatchment to this one.

Well, maybe a little. After Onee-chan Exclusive!, I didn't really know if I was gonna continue translating. Thankfully, it was well recieved which kept me open to doing something else. That something else turned out to be the first two volumes of Boys' Empire. Like Onee-chan Exclusive!, there was a sort of compelling need to translate these.

It's turned out to be a great experience for me; after all, I'm a big fan of whatever I translate. Juan Gotoh's been gracious enough to let me continue translating his works and has provided me with some raws and translation suggestions. He's very much an artist worth supporting, so if you've got some expendable income on hand, give his download shop a look.
